PIPETTE LAMPS

with Caroline Linder, 2009
two-sided lamps

Pipette Lamps explores the luxury of scale. Though made only of bent electrical conduit, fiber optics, LEDs and powder coating, the lamp gains aura through the exaggeration of its length in relation to its diameter. In other words, a light industrial material is transformed into a luxurious object, bringing a strong sense of atmosphere and space into the home without expensive materials or laborious practices. In this way, we can scale-back by scaling up.

This is the first project completed by Smith and Linder, a newly formed design practice (with Caroline Linder).

Pipette Lamps have been shown at M+D+F at Design Within Reach (April 2009, Chicago) and The Promise of This Moment (June 2009, Chicago)
